AN ON-LINE WEB PAGE AND VIRTUAL LABORATORY ON LATE ROMAN COARSE AND COOKING WARES IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
This web page is devoted to the study of Coarse and Cooking Wares in the Late Antique Mediterranean. It is designed as a public web page and also as a virtual laboratory where all institutions and researchers interested in the subject can work together towards a specific goal such as the creation of an on-line “encyclopedia” for these categories of ceramics.
The LRCW.NET web page and the associated virtual laboratory are just a small part of a wider initiative that aims the creation of an on-line Encyclopedia for Ancient Ceramics in the Mediterranean. For the last years, the creation of Digital Data-Bases accessible via web pages has been increasing exponentially, mainly for amphorae for which many initiatives are already in use. Initiatives such as the Roman Amphorae: a digital resource from the University of Southampton, the page Amphoralex from The Alexandrian Centre for Amphora Studies or the CEIPAC web page for amphorae stamps are well-known and used by many of us.
